Police Intercept Drink Driver At Gilberton

Police intercepted a high-range drink driver at Gilberton this morning.

Police received multiple calls from concerned motorists at 9.45am on Sunday 23 June reporting a vehicle swerving and driving erratically along North East Road Hillcrest, heading towards the city.

A traffic patrol managed to intercept and stop the vehicle on James Street, Gilberton about 10.15am.

The driver, a 25-year-old Parafield Gardens man, recorded a blood alcohol reading of 0.291 – nearly six times the legal limit.

He was reported for drink driving, providing a false name, driving while disqualified and driving unlicensed (never held). His vehicle was towed from the scene to be impounded for 28 days.

He was issued with an additional 12-month instant loss of licence and will be summonsed to appear in the Adelaide Magistrates Court at a later date.

Police encourage anyone who sees dangerous driving behaviour on our roads to report it at the time, or when safe to do so, by calling the traffic watch hotline on 131 444.
