Police Investigating Wounding At Westcourt

Police have charged a 32-year-old man following the alleged wounding of two people at Westcourt overnight.

It will be alleged around midnight, the man approached a 25-year-old White Rock man on Lyons Street armed with a knife. An altercation took place, and the 25-year-old man sustained a stab wound to his neck.

It is understood the men were known to each other.

It is further alleged the 32-year-old man chased the 25-year-old man to a licenced venue on Mulgrave Road, where he attempted to assault him again with the knife.

Police will allege the man then stabbed a 28-year-old Mooroobool woman inside the venue.

Officers were called to the location and both victims were taken to Cairns Hospital for treatment.

The 32-year-old man was taken into custody at the scene and crime scenes were declared at both Lyons Street and Mulgrave Road.

He was charged with two counts of assault occasioning bodily harm, and one count each of wounding, going armed so as to cause fear, threatening violence and acts intended to maim/disfigure/disable.

He was denied bail and is due to appear in the Cairns Magistrates Court today, May 8.
