Police Update 1: Operation Victor Jenga At Cairns

Detectives have charged six people as part of an operation targeting members and associates of the Mongols Outlaw Motorcycle Gang (OMCG) in Cairns.

Operation Victor Jenga commenced in August 2023, to disrupt, gather intelligence and conduct enforcement actions in relation to OMCG activities and associates.

Officers from the Major and Organised Crime Squad (Far Northern) and Organised Crime Gangs Group and Taskforce Maxima supported by the Cairns Tactical Crime Squad, conducted multiple raids at properties in Kewarra Beach, Smithfield, Edmonton, Palm Cove, Redlynch, and Brinsmead on May 31.

In total, six people have been charged with 23 offences, including grievous bodily harm, habitually consorting with recognised offenders, and drug offences.

On June 4, a 30-year-old Mooroobool man was arrested at Cairns Airport.

Police will allege on May 3, the 30-year-old man assaulted a 37-year-old man, after he interrupted a photo being taken at a Shields Street address.

The 30-year-old man was charged with one count each of grievous bodily harm, public nuisance, and habitually consorting with recognized offenders.

He was remanded in custody and will reappear in the Cairns Magistrates Court on June 14.

A 35-year-old Brinsmead man was charged with six counts of possessing dangerous drugs, two counts of receiving tainted property, one count each of possessing dangerous drugs Schedule 1, possessing property suspected of having been used in connection with the commission of a drug offence, possessing anything used in the commission of crime, buy or possess S4 or S8 medicines or hazardous poisons, and habitually consorting with recognised offenders.

He was remanded in custody and appeared in the Cairns Magistrates Court on June 1, where he was granted bail to reappear on August 2.

A 30-year-old Edmonton man was charged with one count each of habitually consorting with recognized offenders and contravening order about information necessary to access information stored electronically.

A 34-year-old Kewarra Beach man was charged with one count each of habitually consorting with recognized offenders and contravening order about information necessary to access information stored electronically.

He was remanded in custody and appeared in the Cairns Magistrates Court on June 1, where he was granted bail to reappear on August 2.

A 30-year-old Brinsmead man was charged with one count of habitually consorting with recognised offenders.

He is due to appear in the Cairns Magistrates Court on June 16.

A 31-year-old Redlynch man was charged with one count of public nuisance.

He was issued a notice to appear in the Cairns Magistrates Court on June 18.

Detective Acting Senior Sergeant Brad Grace said police will continue to target activity by the Mongols OMCG in Cairns.

“We are committed to investigating and focusing on members of OMCGs and associates who pose a threat to community safety,” Detective Acting Senior Sergeant Grace said.

“We want those who take part in the illegal, anti-social and violent behaviours associated with OMCGs to know that our operations will continue.”
