Police Update 3: Fatal Shed Fire in Pacific Haven, QLD

Police have charged a man with murder following an extensive investigation into a fatal shed fire in Pacific Haven in 2022.

Around 1.35am on February 18, emergency services attended a fire in a small ‘donga’ style structure located on Pacific Haven Drive.

The residence was completed destroyed and police located the body of a 50-year-old man who lived there.

Operation Uniform Appaloosa was established and involved detectives from the Hervey Bay Criminal Investigation Unit and the Homicide Investigation Unit who examined the circumstances of the fire, and the man’s death.

Today, June 24, an 18-year-old Pacific Haven man was arrested in Rockhampton and charged with three counts of arson and one count each of murder and burglary.

He will appear in the Rockhampton Magistrates Court today, June 24.

Detective Inspector Paul Dalton said this was a protracted and thorough police investigation which led to the arrest today.

“This was a complex investigation which has brought justice for the victim and we hope also some closure for his family.”
