A program that helps Cairns primary school students raise environmental awareness and create change in their schools and communities as received Council support.
The Holloways Beach Environmental Education Centre (HBEEC) will receive $10,000, plus up to $1,000 in-kind event support, for the next three years to support the Gifted Global Green program.
Council has been supporting HBEEC since 2004, and has been financial assistance for the Gifted Global Green program (formally Environmental Sustainability Enrichment Program), since 2014.
The program supports talented and gifted science students in the region, selected from their science results, to deliver a real-life sustainability project in the school and the wider community.
Each year students visit the Council chambers with their teachers and present their ideas to Council.
