Project Update On Rossys Creek Bridge Replacement

An image of the old Rossys Creek Bridge in Corrowong before its replacement in 2024.

Work to replace the timber bridge over Rossys Creek on Corrowong Road began on Monday 29 April 2024, and weather permitting, Council expects the new bridge to be finished and ready to reopen on in August 2024.

Residents and businesses in the area are reminded that Corrowong Road is closed in both directions at the bridge site while work is underway. During this closure, drivers need to detour via Browns Camp Road.

Local heavy vehicle operators have agreed not to use the Browns Camp Road detour between 7am and 8.30am or between 4pm to 5.30pm.

Council sought this agreement to make travel for local residents easier and safer during this project, and we are monitoring the situation.

Current and recent work includes the removal of the old timber deck (the part that you drive on) and excavation of the abutments (the areas at either end that the bridge supports are built on). The piling (part of the foundation or footing) contractor has been delayed by bad weather, but is expected on site shortly.

A temporary pedestrian walkway is currently under construction to allow residents to cross Rossys Creek on foot, without having to drive the detour route.

Maintenance work has recently been completed on Browns Camp Road, following resident reports and inspections by Council’s roads team. This maintenance included gravel resheeting to improve conditions on the detour route, especially during rain.

Local residents should continue to plan their travel on the detour route between 7am and 8.30am or between 4pm and 5.30pm to avoid sharing Browns Camp Road with heavy vehicles.

While Council has contacted as many operators as we can, it is not possible to contact every operator that may have vehicles travelling in the area. Drivers are advised that some heavy vehicles may still be encountered on Browns Camp Road during the hours noted above, so please drive with care.

We thank you for your continued patience and cooperation.

Important information on further work in the area

The NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) are upgrading the nearby Merambego Fire Trail. NPWS contractors have begun delivering approximately 3,000 tonnes of road base material via Delegate, Browns Camp Road and Corrowong Road this month, with heavy vehicles transporting this material only between the agreed hours of 8.30am and 4pm.
