Protect Your Pet: Free Microchipping At Woofstock

Shellharbour’s furry residents are wagging their tails in excitement for the return of the Woofstock event on Sunday 23 June at The Waterfront Shell Cove.

The family friendly event will feature local pet-focused market stalls and activities dedicated to the health and lifestyle of your four-legged friend.

Running from 10am to 2pm, it welcomes both dogs and their humans to attend for free.

Shellharbour City Council will be onsite, offering expert advice on responsible pet care. Visitors can check their pet’s registration and microchip details to ensure they are up to date.

Complimentary microchipping for dogs owned by Shellharbour City residents will be provided on the day by Council, along with treats and giveaways. Pet owners will need to present ID with proof of residential address to access the free microchipping offer.

This essential service, typically costing from $50 to $80, will greatly increase the chances of reuniting lost pets with their owners. With this exciting offer, Council aims to reduce the number of lost and unclaimed pets while improving the overall well-being of animals in Shellharbour.

Mayor Chris Homer emphasised the importance of pet identity. “Microchipping is a simple yet crucial step in ensuring the safety and security of our pets. It greatly increases the chances of being reunited with your pet if they go missing.”

“I encourage pet owners to enjoy the day’s festivities, learn from experts, and take advantage of the free microchipping for Shellharbour City residents,” said Mayor Homer.

“Pets are cherished family members, and keeping their collar and microchip information current ensures they can be swiftly and safely returned if they ever go missing.”

Council launched a new animal welfare and rehoming service in March, aimed at reuniting pet owners with their lost dogs. This service has already made a positive impact, helping to bring lost pets back home.

Shellharbour residents can visit the Council’s website or Facebook page to find photos of lost pets or dogs ready for adoption.

Until 30 June, Shellharbour City Council is offering free adoptions, including de-sexing, vaccinations, health check and lifetime registration.
