Putting roofs over heads with the latest housing initiatives

The Tasmanian Liberal Government has rolled out a range of initiatives coming into effect today, with a key focus on supporting more Tasmanians to achieve their dream of owning their own home.

Minister for Housing and Planning, Felix Ellis said our 2030 Strong Plan for Tasmania’s Future backs in Tasmanians aspiring towards home ownership and takes immediate action on the things that matter to Tasmanians.

“As of today, owning a home is a little bit easier, with eligible Tasmanian first home buyers no longer having to pay a cent of stamp duty for any home valued up to $750,000,” Minister Ellis said.

“This allows a young family to break into the housing market and save up to $28,935.

“On top of this, buyers of a new apartment or unit off-plan or under construction valued up to $750,000 will receive a 50 per cent stamp duty concession, saving up to $14,468.

“We are also continuing to grow our popular MyHome Shared Equity program, with the expanded changes increasing the Government’s shared equity contribution and raising the income limits for all eligible purchasers of newly built homes,” he said.

Housing Connect 2.0 has also commenced today and is set to see Tasmanians have better access to housing assistance.

“Tasmanians doing it tough deserve the best possible customer service when seeking a roof over their head and this new service will continue to take a focused and compassionate approach to supporting Tasmanians.”

The Tasmanian Liberal Government has also rolled out continued cost of living initiatives such as energy bill relief, extended prescriptions and free tv in hospitals, on top of half price bus fares which commenced some weeks ago.

“These are just some of the measures that come into effect today, and as part of our 2030 Strong Plan for Tasmania’s Future, we are taking real action on the matters that are important to our people.”
