Northern Territory Police have rescued a bushwalker from the Larapinta Trail over the weekend.
Shortly after 10.30am on Saturday, the Joint Rescue Coordination Centre in Canberra was notified of an emergency position-indicating radio beacon (EPIRB) activation near Stanley Chasm off the Larapinta Trail.
Police investigations identified the beacon as belonging to a 45-year-old female who had started walking the trail on Friday 28 June.
Police deployed a helicopter and located the walker about 2km off the Larapinta Trail in rough terrain. She was uninjured but was disorientated, distressed and low on water. She was conveyed to Alice Springs via helicopter and received medical attention.
Acting Superintendent Michael Budge said, “NT Police urge anyone planning to walk the Larapinta Trail to please consider going with at least one other person, preferably with a group. Please be prepared with adequate supplies, including food and water, and travel with an emergency beacon device.
“In this case, the walker was carrying an EPIRB which greatly assisted police in quickly locating her and ensuring she returned home safely.”
