Scholarships boost expertise for ACT public school teachers

Applications are open for the ACT Teacher Scholarships program, an initiative of the ACT Government to provide ACT public school teachers and school leaders with financial support to undertake further education, training and research.

Each year the ACT Government offers the opportunity for public school teachers and school leaders to study one of three streams of teacher scholarships – Priority Area, Master of Education (University of Canberra) and Master of Education (Teacher Librarianship).

“We understand the importance of continued training and development for our teaching workforce,” Minister for Education Yvette Berry said.

“As we continue to address the impact of the teacher shortage in our schools, upskilling our existing teachers and providing further incentives to recruit new teachers is an important step we can take in making our public schools an employer of choice.

“We want our teachers to be the best they can be and that is why we are proud to fund these scholarship to support our educators in their careers.”

Priority Area Scholarships provide funding of up to $10,000 for study related to students with complex needs and challenging behaviours, languages, STEM subjects, and a range of other educational qualifications with a link to the Future of Education Strategy.

The Master of Education (Teacher Librarianship) Scholarship provides funding of up to $22,000 to study at the university of your choice and earn a Masters degree.

The Master of Education (University of Canberra) Scholarship provides fully-funded access for working teachers and school leaders to a Masters degree designed for teachers to utilise intensive study periods during the school holidays.
