Second Man Charged Over Armed Robbery – South Tamworth

A second man will appear in court today following an alleged armed robbery at a service station in the state’s north-east this week.

About 12.40am yesterday (Monday 24 June 2024), police were told a man entered a service station on Goonoo Goonoo Road, South Tamworth, and allegedly threatened the attendant with a knife.

A second man then entered the store allegedly stealing food.

The attendant was shaken but not hurt.

The matter was reported to officers from Oxley Police District, who established a crime scene and commenced an investigation into the robbery.

An 18-year-old man was charged robbery armed with offensive weapon shortly after police arrived at the scene and remains before the courts.

Following further inquiries, about 1.30pm yesterday (Monday 24 June 2024), police attended a home on Goonoo Goonoo Road, South Tamworth, and arrested a 44-year-old man.

He was taken to Tamworth Police Station and charged with larceny, and custody of knife in a public place.

The man was also charged with shoplifting, larceny, and property-related offences in connection with an unrelated incident.

He was refused bail to appear at Tamworth Local Court today (Tuesday 25 June 2024).
