- WAPC to lead planning for the area, including key health and knowledge precincts

The Cook Government supports the Western Australian Planning Commission’s (WAPC) decision to create an Improvement Plan over the UWA-QEll precinct.
The Improvement Plan, which has now received final approval, enables the State to lead planning within the QEII precinct. The approval of the Improvement Plan means work can now start on an Improvement Scheme, similar to a local planning scheme, for the precinct.
The Improvement Scheme will be developed in consultation with key stakeholders and residents, including the Cities of Perth, Nedlands and Subiaco.
The precinct is identified as a Specialised Activity Centre under the State planning framework and is an important economic centre for Western Australia and globally, through its health, research and tertiary education focus. It is the largest such precinct in the southern hemisphere.
As stated by Planning Minister John Carey:
“This Improvement Plan and a supporting scheme will enable a strategic and coordinated approach to guide future planning and decision-making within this important precinct.
“The WAPC is best placed to undertake this complex planning process to ensure that all voices are heard and that we get the best possible outcome for the State and the people who live and work within this area.”
