Suspicious vehicle fire in Southport, QLD

Gold Coast police are seeking public assistance to help find a man who was captured on CCTV footage deliberately setting fire to a vehicle in Southport.

Around 10.25pm on Saturday, 9 May, an unknown offender has driven a black Holden Barina – without registration plates – and parked the vehicle outside a driveway on Cook Close, Southport.

The offender, who was wearing a skeleton mask, exited the vehicle before emptying an accelerant to the inside of the car. The offender has then lit the vehicle on fire. Footage shows an initial explosion before the offender runs from the scene.

Queensland Fire and Emergency Services were called to the scene and extinguished the blaze a short time later. The fire destroyed vehicle.

Police are appealing for any witnesses, CCTV or access to any dash cam footage in and around the Cook Close, Everest Drive and Edmund Rice Drive area around the time of the incident.
