Tasmanian Health Senate meets to discuss Tasmania’s Health Workforce

Guy Barnett, Minister for Health, Mental Health and Wellbeing

Nearly 40 passionate healthcare advocates from around the State have met in Campbell Town for the Tasmanian Health Senate.

This year the Tasmanian Health Senate is focussing on Tasmania’s health workforce.

The Tasmanian Health Senate brings together clinicians and consumers with the common goal to improve the health and wellbeing of all Tasmanians.

Minister for Health, Mental Health and Wellbeing, Guy Barnett, said the Senate is a voice representing all corners of Tasmania and the health system, that provides leadership, direction, and advice on health issues of statewide and strategic importance.

“Tasmania’s health workforce is an exciting and ambitious topic and I commend the Senate’s focus on how we can continue to improve,” Minister Barnett said.

“The Tasmanian Government is acutely aware of the challenges that workforce shortages are presenting in Tasmania, noting these are linked with national and international shortages.

“We are working hard to continue to ensure that we are addressing the challenges in our healthcare workforce through our 2030 Strong Plan for Tasmania’s Future.

“The Senate’s discussions will build on the Department’s strategic approach to responding to workforce challenges through our Health Workforce 2040 strategy for enhancing Tasmania’s health workforce now and into the future.

“I wish to express my appreciation to the members of the Tasmanian Health Senate and I look forward to working with them to improve health services for all Tasmanians.”
