Tasmanian Weeds Action Fund Chair Re-appointed

Jane Howlett, Minister for Primary Industries and Water

The Tasmanian Weeds Action Fund Chair Ian Sauer has been re-appointed for the next two years, following further investment by the Tasmanian Government in the Fund.

Minister for Primary Industries and Water, Jane Howlett, said the re-appointment comes after the Tasmanian Government announced in the 2023-24 State Budget, an additional $1.4 million over two years to support Stage 3 of the Weeds Action Fund, scheduled to commence from 1 July 2024.

“The Tasmanian Weeds Action Fund was announced in 2018, with $5 million being invested with farmers, community groups and organisations to tackle weeds that impact both environmental and commercial assets,” Minister Howlett said.

“Over the next two years, the Tasmanian Weeds Action Fund being delivered by Natural Resource Management (NRM) North will continue its vital work, with Chair Ian Sauer at the helm.

“I would like to thank Mr Sauer for his great work and am pleased he will continue in his role as Chair.”

Stage 3 of the Weeds Action Fund will aim to consolidate the achievements of the Fund so far by continuing to promote that weed management is a shared responsibility, and provide an opportunity for landowners and land managers to co-invest in removing the threat of serious weeds on their properties.

Under our 2030 Strong Plan for Tasmania’s Future, the Tasmanian Government is providing additional support for the valuable work of the State’s three NRM bodies with a $2.4 million package over the next two years.
