Tassie’s Top Tourism Towns Crowned For 2024

Jeremy Rockliff,

Devonport has today been awarded Tasmania’s Top Tourism Town, with Richmond and Stanley also recognised as part of the 2024 awards.

Tassie’s Top Tourism Towns is a major awards program led by the Tourism Industry Council Tasmania, designed to celebrate the very best of our unique and diverse regions and their world-class visitor experiences.

Richmond has been named the ‘Small Tourism Town’ and Stanley named ‘Tiny Tourism Town’ for 2024.

Premier and Minister for Tourism and Hospitality, Jeremy Rockliff, said Devonport is a worthy winner of this award.

“Devonport is the vibrant hub of the iconic Cradle Mountain region, an ideal launchpad for day trip exploration and for its newly developed waterfront precinct,” Premier Rockliff said.

“Our regional communities have some of the best tourism experiences Tasmania has to offer, ranging from agritourism, history and heritage, arts and culture, along with natural landscapes and attractions found nowhere else in the world.”

Devonport, Stanley and Richmond will go on to represent Tasmania in the national awards that will determine Australia’s Top Tourism Town, announced in September.

Judged by a panel of industry experts, Tassie’s Top Tourism Town categories are:

  • Top Tourism Town Award for populations over 5,000
  • Small Tourism Town Award for populations under 5,000, but greater than 1,500
  • Tiny Tourism Town Award for populations under 1,500

Premier Rockliff said Tasmania’s tourism industry is one of our great success stories, employing one in eight Tasmanians, supporting our economy and contributing to our way of life.

“Visitors come to Tasmania to enjoy unique and authentic experiences where they can meet a producer, learn about the history behind a product and get a taste for farm life, and that’s exactly what these award-winning towns offer,” Premier Rockliff said.

As part of our 2030 Strong Plan for Tasmania’s Future, we are investing an additional $12 million to deliver the 2030 Visitor Economy Strategy.
