Two charged following alleged assaults on police in Heidelberg West

Heidelberg police have charged two men following alleged assaults on police officers and two shop keepers in Heidelberg West last night.

Police responded to reports of a robbery at a Moresby Court liquor store about 7.15pm.

It is alleged that as officers arrived, two males matching descriptions given in the reports were seen exiting the store.

Both males allegedly assaulted two shop keepers before assaulting several police officers whilst resisting arrest.

Multiple police units from Reservoir and Preston arrived on scene and assisted in successfully arresting both males.

It is alleged that one of the men was in possession of an edged weapon.

Several police officers and two shop keepers sustained minor injuries.

A 25-year-old Heidelberg man was charged with assault police, resist police, unlawful assault and possess dangerous article.

A 25-year-old Collingwood man was charged with assault police, resist police and unlawful assault.

Both men were bailed to appear before Heidelberg Magistrates’ Court in November.
