Two people have been charged over alleged property damage offences at a university in Sydney’ north-west earlier this year.
On Sunday 25 February 2024, Ryde Police Area Command commenced an investigation after reports of property damage at a university on Balaclava Road, Macquarie Park.
Police were told five people allegedly entered the university grounds and graffitied offensive symbology which included swastikas on 24 locations around the facility.
As part of the ongoing investigation, officers commenced inquiries into a second incident on Tuesday 21 May 2024, where a 20-year-old man was approached by a man and woman at a bus stop on Herring Road and allegedly intimated.
The man allegedly filmed the incident and uploaded the video to social media.
Following extensive inquiries, officers attached to the Counter Terrorism and Special Tactics Command executed a search warrant at a home on Menzies Road, Marsfield, about 6am yesterday (Tuesday 2 July 2024).
During a search of the home, police seized numerous items related to extreme right-wing ideology which will be the subject of further investigation.
The occupants – a 19-year-old man and a 20-year-old woman – were arrested. He was taken to Gladesville Police Station while she was taken to Chatswood.
They were both charged with destroy/damage property in company, face blackened/disguised with intention to commit indictable offence, possess graffiti implement with intent to contravene section 4, and enter prescribed premises of any person without lawful excuse.
The man was also charged with stalk/intimidate intend fear physical harm and enter inclosed land not prescribed premises without lawful excuse.
They were both granted conditional bail with the man to appear at Burwood Local Court on Tuesday 13 August 2024 and the woman to appear at Hornsby Local Court on Wednesday 24 July 2024.
