Up to $50,000 available to assist businesses’ transition away from native forest logging

Businesses impacted by the end of native forest logging can now apply for a Closure of Impacted Business (CIB) grant.

The grants offer up to $50,000 in assistance to help with expenses associated with closing a business.

The $1 million non-competitive grant program is available for businesses which can demonstrate 50 per cent reliance on native timber and have not received any other Native Forest Transition funding.

Grant money can be used to access financial, legal and counselling services along with services related to selling or disposing of equipment and machinery.

Since September 2021 the Western Australian Government has committed $80 million to support the transition of workers, businesses and communities linked to the native forest industry.

As stated by Forestry Minister Jackie Jarvis:

“The Closure of Impacted Business grant program is the latest funding initiative by the WA Government to assist businesses and communities transition away from the native forest industry.

“This grant is focused on assisting those who chose not to transition into a new industry and are finding financial challenges with closing operations.

“While the WA Government has invested a record $350 million into new softwood plantations across the South West to continue to support forestry jobs in our State.”
