Further vegetation buffer works will take place soon in Rudder Park to encourage flying-foxes to roost further towards the Macleay River and away from residential homes.

Kempsey Shire Council has received several concerns that flying-foxes in Rudder Park are creating significant mess, noise and frustration for residents.

As part of the Rudder Park Flying-fox Management Plan, Council will commence works in late June/early July to remove exotic vegetation and replace with native plants unsuitable for flying-fox roosting. This will encourage the flying foxes to roost further away from residential homes.

During this time, Rudder Park will closed for around three weeks for public safety as chemicals will be used.

As flying-foxes are listed as vulnerable, Council cannot interfere with the colony in anyway to remove them from Rudder Park.

If you would like to know more about managing flying-foxes in Rudder Park, come talk to us at Kempsey Central Shopping Centre on Wednesday 8 June from 9.30-11.30am.
