MEDIA INVITED TO ATTEND (please note these are approximate times only)

1:15pm Buses bringing metropolitan nurses and midwives will arrive at Melbourne Exhibition and Convention Centre, 1 Convention Place, South Wharf and regional nurses and midwives will arrive at eight venues across Victoria.

2pm Statewide meeting commences. Media is invited to hear formal speakers, streamed from the Melbourne venue, but will be asked to leave for the discussion. Media will be invited back in for the nurses’ and midwives’ vote.

3.30pm (approx) ANMF (Vic Branch) Secretary Lisa Fitzpatrick available at the Melbourne venue to answer media questions.

Victorian public sector nurses and midwives will attend a statewide meeting on Wednesday 26 June to consider the Allan Government’s offer of a 28.4% (compounded) wage increase by the end of a four-year agreement.

The offer follows intensive discussions between the Australian Nursing and Midwifery Federation (Victorian Branch) and senior representatives from the Allan Government and the Department of Health.

On 20 May members rejected an offer which included government wages policy of 12 per cent, cash bonuses and an additional gender equity uplift of between 5.5 and 13.3 per cent based on the expected outcome of ANMF’s Fair Work Commission aged care work value case. The offer was rejected due to a number of uncertainties.

The offer to be considered on Wednesday realises the gender equity increase the Fair Work Commission expert panel has forecast in ANMF’s aged care work value case, provides dates for all increases and restores relativities between all classifications by the end of the agreement.

Talks began in October 2023. Public sector nurses and midwives began protected industrial action on 7 May.
