Woman charged with historical child abuse offences

Detectives from the Sex Assault Squad have charged a 61-year-old woman in relation to historical child abuse offences that occurred between 1994 and 1995 in the Yakamia area.

At the time of the offences, the woman was aged in her 30s, and ran a family day care centre out of her home. It will be alleged she committed three sexually based offences against a male child who was aged between 4 and 5 years at the time.

The 61-year-old woman from the Great Southern District has been charged with:

• One count of Indecent Dealing of a Child under 13 years;

• One count of Sexual Penetration of a Child under 13 years; and

• One count of Procured or Encouraged a Child to Engage in Sexual Behaviour.

She is due to appear before the Albany Magistrates Court on Thursday, 30 May 2024.
